 Atom Heart Mother

Atom Heart Mother is my absolute favorite early Floyd record. Pretty much the whole thing is brilliant. Atom Heart Mother Suite is a nice song with a lot of brass, almost like a Pink Floyd orchestra. If is quiet and beautiful. Fat Old Sun is soothing and has one of Gilmour's best solos. Summer '68 is a more upbeat song with a great melody and a powerful chorus. Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast isn't nearly as good as the rest of the songs, but I like some of the piano in the tune.

Talk about Atom Heart Mother here.

Atom Heart Mother was one of my first Pink Floyd albums. I just found it in a store and bought it. I wasn't really into music at all at this point, so I actually disliked this album and didn't listen to it for a long while.
One day when I had gotten more into the Floyd, I gave it a listen and I really loved it.
I agree pretty much with your description of the album.

My absolute favourite part of the album is the Funky Dung part of Atom Heart Mother suit. Absolutely groovy to the bone and fun to jam along to.
But I really like the whole album alot.

Classic album. I started off just liking it for the suite, but I've grown to like the three vocal songs as well. The Breakfast song has a couple good moments, but it's not one I like.
Honestly, if I had the AHM suite, Echoes, and Shine On... as one CD, it would nearly be the best CD ever! I really like how the suite manages to sound spontaneous and improvised, even though it must have actually taken a lot of time and work to put the rock instrumentation and the brass and choir together.

What do you guys think of the AHM Suite live? I like it a lot better than the album version. I like the more improvisational feel that comes without the brass section.

I first got the album as an 11 year old in August of 1987. My Floyd collection was taking off. The cow on the cover was what persuaded me into snatching it. Side one of the cassette had the title cut and If. Then Summer 68, Fat Old Sun and Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast was what Side 2 comprised of. Loved it from first listen.

You make a good point. I still feel like they did a good job at getting an improvisational feel on the album version, even though everything must have been tightly scripted to add in the brass section. I'm sure it's much more so on the live verions, but I haven't had the chance to listen to them in a while, so I'll have to check them out again.

Found this gem on youtube. Not too often you find good recordings of this era of Floyd.

I always liked Summer 68 and Fat Old Sun which were my favorites of the three short tracks (If was excellent as well but Wright and Gilmour's pieces were exceptional). Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast's three musical sections were excellent in their own special way. The title track, worth owning the album alone.
